Jaycar has been caught with its hand in the cookie jar; and by cookie jar I mean producing bold faced facsimiles of someone else’s product. It turns out that Jaycar took designs for an Arduino experimenter’s kit from Freetronics, one of their suppliers, banged up some replacements and copied the manual which came with the Freetronics product.
This is kind of a dick move and has made a lot of people angry at Jaycar; especially since their knock-off is not priced any cheaper. So it’s not so much of a “passing the savings onto you” and more like “keeping the savings for ourselves”.
A Change.org petition started to call attention to Jaycar’s practices recently claimed victory advising that Jaycar has discontinued the offending product, but this is a far cry from removing existing units from sale, or paying compensation to Freetronics.
Perhaps consider buying direct from Freetronics themselves, or perhaps giving your custom to one of Jaycar’s many competitors.
