SNK has been quietly laying the groundwork for a comeback, of sorts.
The much-loved company has been gearing up for the launch of The King of Fighters XIV, the series which has been the totality of SNK’s video game output for the past many years. This may not raise any eyebrows, as we’ve seen our fair share of new versions of KoF in the past however, the movements happening on the periphery have caught the eye of some.
Firstly they’ve rebranded (or back-branded) from SNK Playmore to just SNK, complete with a new logo ident trailer with the classic intro music, you know, the one that grabs you nostalgia glands and gives them a good tight squeeze.
Again, not something which would normally entice me to put fingertips to keyboard. After all, we’re here for some games and blow me down if they aren’t just working on some new ones.
The King of Fighters XIV producer Yasuyuki Oda recently confirmed, during 4Gamer’s annual Year End Report, the company is indeed working on several other titles which they hope to announce sometime in 2017.
New SNK games.
Combine this news with SNKs late 2015 departure from the declining pachi-slot business and continual hiring of developers and it’s all enough to get me to sit up and take notice.
Welcome back SNK, Namco left a nice warm spot for you over here.
